Ex-Gov. John Sununu: Don't Believe the Polls

By    |   Monday, 24 Oct 2016 06:26 PM

Polling is far too unreliable for predicting the outcome of Election Day next month, according to former Gov. John Sununu, R-N.H.

"I don't believe any" of the polls, the former chief of staff and author of "The Quiet Man: The Indispensable Presidency of George W. Bush" declared in a Monday "America Talks Live" interview.

"First of all . . . the culture of corruption," Sununu said, referring to a hacked email of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta revealing Democrats use "oversampling" to inflate polling numbers.

"But in terms of the polls, nobody has any idea what the turnout equation is going to be."

Sununu said the next two weeks before the Nov. 8 election will be marked by an "aggressive get out the vote campaign, because they are trying to protect the down ballot, but they're also hoping to get the folks to come out and vote for the top of the ticket as well."

"So what actually happens in two weeks, nobody knows – not the pollsters and frankly those of us who have been in this game a long time," he said. "I'm the first to admit, I don't even know."

Sununu said the GOP presidential nominee is drilling down on down-ballot races as well.

"In Naples, Fla., Donald Trump began to do the right thing, talking about how important it is to vote for the down ballot candidates," he said. "I think the last two weeks . . . that's going to be a very important part of the theme."

Sununu sees the question before voters a simple one.

"The question for voters is, do you want to vote for corruption again and continue that, or do you want change?" he said. "And I think it's time that people understood this deal – with quotes around 'deal' – between the liberal media and the Clintons has caused us enough problems. Let's make a change."
