Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., told Newsmax on Monday that the Georgia Legislature should pursue impeachment charges against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for eyeing up the "fanny" of special prosecutor Nathan Wade, with whom she is accused of having an improper affair, and allegedly misusing state and county funds.
Willis is prosecuting former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants for allegedly trying to overturn the state's 2020 election results.
"I think the wheels are clearly falling off the bus on this investigation," Collins said during an appearance on "National Report." "I was telling a group earlier this morning that I think this was more made for a Jerry Springer episode than it is anything, when you've got Fani Willis, who's obviously got her eye on somebody else's fanny instead of actually out there trying to do the people's work, and trying to pay for it off the taxpayers' dime."
On Friday, Georgia state GOP Rep. Charlice Byrd introduced a resolution to impeach Willis, accusing her of using her official position for political gain and questioning whether there was a conflict of interest when she hired Wade. Collins voiced support for the state legislature to take impeachment action against Willis for the alleged misconduct.
"I think it's evident and I think as more and more evidence comes out, especially over in the divorce court that's going on between Wade and his soon-to-be ex-wife," Collins said. "That's where a lot of your evidence has been coming from as to where the money has been funneled so Wade and Fani Willis could go on their escapades and their trips. So sure, the state Legislature has the ability; they should take that up, and they should use their ability and their rights to impeach his lady and get her off this case."
The congressman also commented on the alleged visits between Wade and the Biden White House and said that Willis' prosecution of Trump is "just another bogus case" against the former president.
"Fani Willis and Wade, they had connection and have been speaking with the White House on this case, so it has been a way for the Biden administration and Joe Biden to use the court system and the DOJ [Department of Justice] to try to just kill his political opponents because he knows he's got problems in November," he said. "Trump is going to win back the White House and at least help us get this place back on track."
