Michael Reagan: GOP Will Need Obamacare Alternative for 2016

By    |   Thursday, 25 June 2015 09:24 PM EDT

Republicans will need to come up with an alternative to Obamacare if they expect to take the White House in 2016, commentator Michael Reagan tells Newsmax TV.

"If they're going to run for presidency in 2016, and say, 'We need to replace Obamacare with a better program,' then they have to come up with that better program so that they can show it to the public and tell the public why it's better, why they should vote Republican in 2016 so that they can repeal and replace Obamacare," Reagan said on "Newsmax Prime."

Republican presidential candidates on Thursday slammed the Supreme Court ruling that allows subsidies to continue for people in states without their own exchanges.

Reagan noted that in California, where he lives, his wife's deductible has increased from $2,500 to $7,500 and allows her to go to the doctor only three times per year.

"That's not a better program," he said. "I think of it more as the Unaffordable Subsidy Care instead of the Affordable Care Act because it is unaffordable for most Americans and they're going to have to be subsidized by the government to pay for it."

That, he said, will drive up the cost for everybody, and "ultimately, it's going to cost people their lives because the government's going to choose who's going to get healthcare and who's not going to get healthcare as you age."
