Civil Rights Leader: Fox News Must Stop 'Race-Baiting'

Thursday, 28 May 2015 05:57 PM EDT

Fox News Channel is guilty of "race-baiting" and portraying African-American men as "society's monsters," Michael Meyers, president of the New York Civil Rights Coalition, tells Newsmax TV.

Meyers, also a columnist for the New York Daily News, singled out Fox personalities Megyn Kelly and Bill O'Reilly, who are white, and Geraldo Rivera, who is Hispanic, as among the offenders.

"You've got to tell Megyn Kelly … Bill O'Reilly, Geraldo Rivera, the list goes on. They keep talking about the so-called 'black male' as a social problem, as the persons who are responsible for crime," Meyers said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"There is no such a thing as 'the black male,' just like there's no such thing as the 'Italian male' or the 'Jewish male' when it comes down to crime and they've got to stop it. This is race baiting."

"They paint black males as society's monsters and you do not put color on crime. A thug is a thug. I don't care what color they are, what ethnicity they are."

Meyers urged executives at Fox to heed his words.

"I'm telling you, Fox News Channel suits, you guys do something," Meyers said.
