NY Civil Rights Group Chief: Bill O'Reilly Spreads 'Racial Idiocy'

By    |   Thursday, 30 April 2015 06:31 PM

The executive director of the New York Civil Rights Coalition says Fox News host Bill O'Reilly is shameful for spreading "separatist, racial idiocy" following the Baltimore riots.

"I am so sick of paternalism from everybody, black and whites, including O'Reilly — [it's] racial idiocy, the black community has to police the black community!" Michael Meyers said Thursday on "the Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"No other racial group polices their own community, what kind of nonsense is that? This is separatist, racial idiocy, Bill O'Reilly. Shame on you."

On Tuesday, O'Reilly told viewers of "The O'Reilly Factor" that the black community must police itself following the riots that broke out after Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man, died in police custody.

O'Reilly said racial persecution isn't the problem in Baltimore — that "something else is in play. That something else is personal behavior.

"Every American, even criminals, should be safe in police custody. But it is also long past time for African-American communities across America to begin to police themselves."

Meyers doesn't buy it.

"I don't want to hear about the brothers. I don't want to hear that [President Barack] Obama is my brother.... People, I don't care what your skin color is. Right is right and wrong is wrong"

Meyers, who is also a columnist for the New York Daily News, added:

"Don't engage in misbehavior, obey the cops, because when you're in a confrontation and encounter with a cop, you don't have any rights until you get to a court room."

Meyers believes the investigation into Gray's death has been in disarray.

"You have a police commissioner who interviewed five of the six cops, the arresting cops. He still doesn't know what went on, so apparently the cops never told him," Meyers said.

"And then you have a person who doesn't' even just have a broken spine, but a broken voice box. Did he do that to himself, too? Talk about blaming the victim. No. I want an independent investigation.

"As I have told you many times, cops can't police the cops. But in Baltimore, believe it or not, they have what they call a law enforcement officer's bill of rights meaning their supervisors can't even talk to them for how many days after an incident? Ten days! Ten days!"

Meyers is disgusted that Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake —under fire for having police stand down as rioting escalated — appeared with Rev. Al Sharpton at a summit held by Sharpton's National Action Network.

"The mayor of Baltimore, this is what I call the David Dinkins of Baltimore," Meyers said, referring to the first black mayor of New York City.

"They love Al Sharpton. This is, again, paternalism. She is beyond unbelievable and inept.
"She should go and her police commissioner should go because they are deaf, dumb, and blind. Any time you go to the National Action Network your credibility is gone."
