Rep. Mary Miller to Newsmax: Ill. Bill Shows Weakness of Dem Policies

By    |   Wednesday, 31 January 2024 06:24 PM EST

Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., told Newsmax on Wednesday that legislation in her home state to prohibit law enforcement officers from stopping drivers for several traffic offenses is another sign of weak Democrat lawmaking.

The legislation, HB 4603, was introduced Monday by state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago. It states that law enforcement officers cannot stop a motor vehicle for, among other offenses, speeding or improper lane usage unless the violation is a misdemeanor or felony.

"These bills and these policies that are making our country and our cities and small towns less safe are being led by Democrats," Miller said on "American Agenda." "It's more dismantling of law and order and justice, safety. The things that caused Americans to feel safe in their communities. Really, if you don't feel safe, does anything else matter?"

Under the bill, authorities would not be authorized to pull over someone speeding up to 25 mph above the limit in Illinois, which is a Class B misdemeanor according to state law. Along with speeding and improper lane usage, the bill also states authorities cannot pull anyone over for failure to display registration plates or stickers; operating with an expired registration sticker; excessive tints; defective mirrors, bumpers, and windshield wipers or an obstructed windshield; excessive exhaust; failure to comply with vehicle lamp requirements; and failure to wear a seat belt.

Plus, any evidence discovered or obtained from a stop in violation of those provisions, including evidence discovered with the driver's consent, will be inadmissible in any trial, hearing, or other proceeding.

"The Democrat Party has been taken over by radical Marxists," said Miller, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. "President Obama said he had a dream of the fundamental transformation of our country. Joe Biden, from day one, you could see he's carrying that dream out, shutting down energy independence, opening our borders, decimating our military, attacking our school children with perverse curriculum and transgender ideology.

"Every single thing he is doing is so anti-American and so bad for our country. … These are Democrat policies and the people in our big cities that are voting for Democrats are disproportionately impacted by these policies.

"They need to quit voting for Democrats. … People, please don't continue to push the 'D' button when you go vote. We need [Donald] Trump back in the office. We need to take the Senate and the House, and we need to set our country right."
