Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Wednesday that the U.S. must stand with Israel amid a new conflict with Iranian-backed terrorists.
"We need to … stand with Israel and make certain that our allies know they're our allies and that our enemies fear us," Blackburn told "Newsline."
Twelve children were killed by a rocket strike Saturday in northern Israel. Israel has blamed Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon and funded by Iran, though Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the attack. The bombing is the deadliest in Israel since Iranian-backed Hamas' Oct. 7 terrorist attack. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh reportedly was assassinated in Tehran early Wednesday.
Israel's military announced late Tuesday that it had killed Faud Shukr, whom it named as Hezbollah's most senior commander and whom it blamed for the rocket attack.
Blackburn said the Biden administration has shown weakness, allowing U.S. adversaries to act. She said a new axis of evil of Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea has been formed.
"When [Doanld] Trump was president, Iran was broke because there were sanctions that prohibited Iran from getting their oil to the global marketplace," Blacburn said. "But President [Joe] Biden lifted those sanctions. And when he did, Iran started to make billions of dollars selling millions of barrels of oil every week.
"So, they went back to being the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism. And they're the ones that fund, train, equip and support these terrorist organizations."
