Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., told Newsmax on Monday that "there's no one better" to be the next president of the United States than former President Donald Trump, the current front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
"We need security in America," Alford said "Wake Up America." "Border security, national security, economic security. There is no one better suited to be a true leader to sit behind that resolute desk and be a resolute leader with a stamina and gusto that we need than President Donald J. Trump.
"That's why today on Newsmax, I am officially announcing that I am endorsing Donald Trump to get back to Washington and start cleaning house now."
Alford also talked about the desperate conditions at the U.S.-Mexico border that he encountered while visiting last week with Speaker Mike Johnson and a contingent of House Republicans.
"It is much worse than anyone can imagine," Alford said. "Pictures and video does not describe it. We were there, along with some 60 other congressmen and women, along with Speaker Mike Johnson. We were being escorted around by the head of the Texas Department of Public Safety. We're just feet away from the Rio Grande, there's concertina wire everywhere, and 11 illegals cross right in front of us and try to cut the wire right in front of our very eyes."
Alford added: "This administration has opened its arms to illegal immigration. We had the estimate that more than 9 million illegal aliens have come into our country since Biden took office. It is a disaster, it is a humanitarian crisis; this is modern day sex slavery.
"What's happening is these people are paying the cartel some $5,000 to $8,000 each to have them ferried across our national border and, in exchange, they go into the sex trade once they get here into the United States of America.
"Not all of them, but a big majority of them. There are more than 100,000 children unaccounted for that this country has welcomed in — this administration — and they don't know where these children are."
Alford said the House Homeland Security Committee is slated to hold hearings this week and possibly vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for failing to stem the flood of migrants that has overwhelmed the southern border during Biden's tenure.
