Lost in the Democrats' massive rush to support President Donald Trump's call for $2,000 stimulus checks is the reality that they will need to cut spending elsewhere in the omnibus, according to Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, on Newsmax TV.
"The president wasn't just talking about everybody getting $2,000, the president was talking about getting rid of the pork," Gohmert told Wednesday's "Stinchfield."
Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. — along with progressive firebrands Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and her "squad" — have leapt to support the boosted stimulus.
But they have not mentioned what they will cut from the annual spending package, Gohmert told host Grant Stinchfield.
"What I learned early on in Congress was, when we have a comprehensive bill, comprehensive, big, it means: 'We need a bill that is so massive that people can hide all kinds of pork that could never pass on its own volition,'" Gohmert said.
"It's not just a COVID bill, it's our appropriations for the whole year, they kept putting off, putting off — now with all of that with COVID, thinking, 'Well, everyone will have to vote for the COVID bill.'"
