Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton told Newsmax on Wednesday his state Legislature should investigate AT&T-owned DirecTV's decision to remove the conservative network from its channel lineup because AT&T's world headquarters is in Dallas.
Newsmax, the fourth-highest-rated cable news network, was deplatformed Jan. 24 by DirecTV, which has kept 22 left-leaning news channels, many that don't approach Newsmax's audience.
In January 2022, DirecTV dropped another conservative news outlet, the One America News Network.

"I agree that Congress should investigate, [but] I think our own Texas House and Senate should call for investigations of this," Paxton told "The Chris Salcedo Show." "This is a company that's headquartered in Texas, and they should at least answer the question of why they're doing it.
"Why are they treating Newsmax and OAN different than they treat MSNBC, CNN, and other liberal networks?"
Paxton said he agreed with Gigi Sohn, President Joe Biden's nominee for a seat on the Federal Communications Commission, who testified Tuesday in front of a Senate committee she was "very troubled" by DirecTV's decision on Newsmax and that the agency should investigate.
"I agree with her and I was actually very encouraged to hear her say the words that she said that she's concerned about Newsmax and being cut off," Paxton said. "If it can happen to conservative outlets, it can happen to liberal outlets. There's no reason it wouldn't. If we had a different administration and this is authorized, why wouldn't they do the same thing to the other side? I think this is all wrong."
