Homeland Security Expert: Navy Yard Shootings 'Clear, Planned Attack'

By    |   Monday, 16 September 2013 05:19 PM EDT

The tragic shootings and deaths of 13 at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday were a "clear, planned attack," according to David Katz, CEO of Global Security Group and Homeland Security expert.

"Obviously it's clear that it's a planned effort," Katz told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"This is a clear, planned, deliberate attack."

Story continues below video.

And the fact that Aaron Alexis, the suspected gunman, worked for a defense contractor for the Navy "does call into question the level of security or level of scrutiny we're giving our contractors," Katz said.

"Look, the big leaker hiding in the Soviet Union, now, he was an independent contractor. This guy's an independent contractor.

"We really need to do a little better job of checking their backgrounds and screening them because apparently, these miscreants are falling through the cracks."
