McLaughlin: GOP Must Work Hard to Get Vote Out

Republicans cannot rest for a minute in the homestretch into next week's midterm elections — and must work hard to get out the vote, says renowned political strategist and pollster John McLaughlin.

"It's about driving out the right voters," McLaughlin said Monday on the "Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"You have to drive more of your supporters out and the key thing right now is what we found in our Oct. 16 poll — that 56 percent of all voters disapprove of the job President Obama is doing.

"It was the highest that we had all year among these likely voters. Only 41 percent approve. You have just a very common denominator where you can drive voters out to win the election."

McLaughlin urged the GOP to refrain from "any victory dances'' for now.

"They shouldn't be expecting great wins for the next eight days, especially in states where you have early voting," he said.

"You've got to get these voters out and you have to make sure they get out, cast their votes, line up supporting Republicans that will oppose the president and will put him in a check-and-balance position."

McLaughlin said the Democrats battered Republicans in the 2012 presidential election when they "drove a lot of their vote out on the last weekend."

"They went ahead in the published polls the day before the election and the president drove it out on Election Day," McLaughlin said.

"Until the polls close, the Republicans need to match them digitally because the Facebook voters tend to tilt towards the Democrats, although Republicans do better with LinkedIn types and maybe YouTube types.

"But the large majority of voters who use social media like Facebook, need to get a message and a reason why they need to go out and vote for the Republicans this time."
