Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore finally made the cut for one of the GOP presidential debate stages on Thursday, and he did his best to ensure he was called on.

"Did you miss me? Did you skip me?" Gilmore asked at one point.

Moderator Bill Hemmer assured him he would get more questions later.

"Yeah, I will be there," Gilmore responded.

When he did get a question later, he pointed out the rival Carly Fiorina was given two one-minutes answers in a row.

"This media across the country is manipulating and shaping and framing this campaign and has been for at least a year now in order to get the kind of choices that people are going to have an opportunity to see," he said after answering his original question.

"We have another question for you, Gov. Gilmore, back-to-back," moderator Martha McCallum then said.

"I'll take it," Gilmore said.

Earlier, Gilmore attacked Donald Trump, who is skipping the main debate to hold a rival event nearby that he says will raise money for veterans.

"I'm the only veteran, Bill and Martha, in this race," he said. "I'm not going to any Donald Trump event over across town on some sort of faux veteran sort of issue."
