In discussing the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation, New Jersey GOP Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, told Newsmax on Wednesday that he is concerned the Department of Justice is limiting his committee from fully investigating whistleblower disclosures.
Van Drew said on "Newsline" a pair of IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, have testified before the House Oversight Committee that their work investigating President Joe Biden's son was stymied and slow-walked by Justice Department officials.
House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith, R-Mo., have been investigating whether political interference played any role in the federal probe into whether Biden violated any income tax laws or other statutes.
"Obviously, they are interfering," Van Drew told Newsmax of President Biden and his administration. "Obviously they are corrupt. We know they set up a sweetheart deal that has never been seen in American law ever. We literally have the fox guarding the hen house."
Van Drew told Newsmax he thinks the corrupt people are doing everything possible to prevent the truth coming out.
"Thank God for the whistleblowers," he said. "Thank God for an occasional judge who's telling the truth and really judging this the way that it should be, otherwise, this would have been all over."
Van Drew said it is "unbelievable" what's happening to our country right now.
"I will tell you in my mind, there's only one answer to this," he said. "We need an impeachment inquiry. Frankly, I think we have enough for an impeachment. But you know, everybody wants to be careful — not that the Democrats were ever careful — but at least the inquiry gives us more subpoena powers.
"Advanced subpoena powers gives us more investigatory powers, and it's something the American public understands."
Earlier this month, Van Drew tweeted: "David Weiss has already shown he is incapable of conducting an impartial investigation into Hunter Biden's business dealings, and this latest move by the DOJ isn't fooling anyone. The walls are closing in on the Biden family & now more than ever we need an impeachment inquiry."
