Fox's Beckel: Jeb Bush Is Only Republican Who Can Win White House

Hints by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush that he may seek the White House in 2016 has at least one liberal Democrat worried.

Bob Beckel, the resident left-winger on Fox News Channel's discussion show "The Five," said on Thursday's show he hopes Bush doesn't seek the office formerly held by Jeb Bush's father and brother. Democrats, Beckel said, will find him hard to beat.

Beckel has worked on Democratic campaigns in the past, and was behind Walter Mondale's famous "Where's the beef?" line against fellow Democrat Gary Hart.

"I'm just telling you this guy can win," Beckel said. "He scares me to death."

"I hope he doesn't run, because I think it's going to make it very difficult for the Democrats to beat him."

Beckel isn't alone. Bush's mother, Barbara, doesn't want him to run either.

Mrs. Bush, who was first lady when her husband George H.W. Bush was in office and presidential mother to son George W. Bush, says there are plenty of other good families who can handle the office.

So who would Beckel like to see instead?

"I'd die for a right-winger to get the nomination," he said.
