Hunter Biden's legal woes have made Democrats, all of a sudden, "big supporters of the Second Amendment," says Jason Miller, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump.
"You can't turn on the TV right now without [one Democrat] saying, 'That's not what the framers had in mind. These charges are unconstitutional, they will not hold up,'" Miller said Friday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s "NewsLine."
"In fact, former Obama ethics czar Norm Eisen was on CNN last night making that claim which, by the way, all these guys have been gun grabbers their entire life, and now they're trying to stick up for Hunter. So, it's a little comical."
Hunter Biden was indicted Thursday on federal firearms charges, the latest step in a long-running investigation into the president’s son that puts the case on track toward a possible high-stakes trial as the 2024 election looms.
Hunter Biden is accused of lying about his drug use when he bought a firearm in October 2018, a period when he has acknowledged struggling with addiction to crack cocaine, according to the indictment filed in federal court in Delaware by a special counsel overseeing the case.
"These are very real charges," Miller told Newsmax.
"We shouldn't want anyone who's a crack head to have a firearm. I don't think that's a good idea, and I think most people would agree with that."
The indictment came as a result of pressure on Attorney General Merrick Garland, said Miller.
Former President Donald Trump and Republicans "have been criticizing the very apparent two-tiered system of justice for months now. We now have four of these politically motivated indictments, and I think Merrick Garland is feeling the heat and what this is, is him trying to show they're doing something with regard to the Hunter Biden allegations. But nothing goes back to Joe. … Nothing goes to selling access. That's what's important. Not these gun charges."
Additionally, Miller slammed President Biden for his push on electric vehicles, telling Newsmax the approach is an “existential threat to the American auto industry.”
