By    |   Monday, 16 February 2015 06:48 PM EST

Former Navy SEAL and ex-FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam says that with the latest Islamic State (ISIS) outrage — the savage beheading of 21 Coptic Christians — Americans now must insist the U.S. get fully involved with fighting the barbaric terrorist group.

"It's time to throttle forward now. People need to start insisting that we get in the fight because the fight is going to come here." Gilliam said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It's now starting to spread, they're now threatening Rome, they're talking specifically about Christians … and [in the United States] the majority religion in this country is Christian."

Gilliam — president of United States Continued Service, which helps employ military veterans — said the brass at the Defense Department "baffle me" with their lackluster response to the ongoing attacks by the Islamic State.

"What's up with the DoD executives? … Where's the DoD? Somebody's going to have to do something eventually, otherwise it's going to come here, and then what?" Gilliam said.
