The good news about George H.W. Bush is that he continues to improve after taking a nasty fall a few weeks ago. The bad news is that he's one cranky guy.

That's the word from John Sununu, Bush's former chief of staff, who says the nation's 41st president is doing nicely as he recuperates at the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.

"He's doing well. He's home. He's got to wear a collar brace so that makes him a little cranky I hear. But physically he's doing fine," Sununu said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Last month, Bush, 91, fell and broke a vertebrae in his neck, but luckily the injury didn't affect his spine or impact any of his limbs.

"The recovery is on track and he tweeted out a couple of pictures last week which showed that he was smiling,' said Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire.

Sununu is the author of "The Quiet Man: The Indispensable Presidency of George H.W. Bush," published by Broadside Books.
