Conservative commentator and fundraiser Foster Friess thinks Donald Trump was in the wrong regarding his recent comments about Sen. John McCain, but does think Americans should "honor [Trump] for who he is."
During an interview on
Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Prime," Friess tells host J.D. Hayworth it requires taking the "Christian approach" when it comes to dealing with the real estate mogul.
"The thing about Donald Trump is we have to take the Christian approach," Friess says.
"As a Christian nation, we're taught to hate sin but love the sinner, and so the few times I've been with Donald Trump I admire much about him."

Regarding Trump's comments about McCain, in which he insinuated that the former Navy pilot who spent more than five years as a POW during the Vietnam War was not a "hero," Friess tells Hayworth Trump crossed the line.
"Donald Trump was definitely wrong early on when he denigrated John McCain," Friess says. "I love the Philippians verse, 'always consider other people more important than yourself.' But that's why Jesus invented forgiveness, and so Donald is Donald and we need to honor him for who he is and he brings a lot to the table because he's honest and forthright."
Friess was asked if he would support Trump if former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, his preferred candidate in the race, dropped out.
"I'm just going to stick with what a winning solution is, and people will remember soon as a campaign goes forward that Rick Santorum is probably the most likely person to win because when he ran for Senate in Pennsylvania, he won twice with 1 million more registered Democrats against him," Friess says, adding that Santorum is the "most knowledgeable" candidate when it comes to immigration.
Trump's stock did not take a hit over the weekend after he made disparaging remarks about Fox News host Megyn Kelly in response to last Thursday's Republican debate.
