Responding on Newsmax to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' claim that the allegations against her were racially motivated, Utah Rep. Burgess Owens said that if Martin Luther King Jr. were alive to witness Black people using race to skirt responsibility for their actions, he'd be "ashamed."
Speaking to "The Record with Greta Van Susteren," Owens says, "Dr. Martin Luther King, and that generation, if they were alive today, they would be ashamed of what we're now seeing today."
"We have people who truly think today, they're entitled to different games. At the end of the day, if you lie, cheat, and steal, I don't care what color you are; you don't lower the barrier and say because you're Black, you're not supposed to be accountable."
Willis is facing accusations of hiring special prosecutor Nathan Wade in the case against former President Donald Trump, Fox News reported. Court documents allege that Willis had an "improper" romantic relationship with Wade. Since January 2022, Fulton County records show that Wade has been paid nearly $654,000 in legal fees, an amount authorized by Willis.
