The Russia investigation will have little to no impact on the upcoming midterm elections, author and political commentator Jeffrey Lord told Newsmax TV.
Lord appeared on Tuesday's "Newsmax Now" and discussed the special counsel probe that has been ongoing for well over a year.
"I think it's more than time [to end the Russia investigation]," Lord said during a panel discussion that got heated at times. "It is just fascinating to me that all of this began about so-called Russian meddling in the election, and they've got Paul Manafort and the case had absolutely zero to do with Russian meddling in the election."
"In terms of our upcoming election, I always return to the wisdom of James Carville, Bill Clinton's guru, 'it's the economy, stupid.' It is the economy, stupid, first, last, and always. I think Russia is going to be well beyond dead last in terms of things that most people are gonna vote about."

Manafort worked as chairman of the Trump campaign for a brief time in 2016. He is now on trial for tax evasion and other federal charges stemming from his political consulting work.
Special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the Department of Justice's Russia investigation, first brought up the charges on Manafort last fall.
