The uproar over President Donald Trump asking a top FBI official who he voted for in the 2016 presidential election is much ado about nothing, attorney Ed Pozzuoli, who co-chaired Jeb Bush's gubernatorial run and was part of the Bush-Cheney legal team during the 2000 recount, tells Newsmax TV.

"The idea that President Trump might ask Andrew McCabe who he voted for and given the fact that his wife was supported by one of the closest Clinton allies in Terry McAuliffe, the question becomes, so what? It's not actionable, so what?" Pozzuoli said Wednesday to John Bachman on "America Talks Live."

On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that during a meeting in Oval Office last May, Trump asked the acting FBI director whom he voted for and complained about campaign donations his wife received from an ally of Democrat Hillary Clinton in her Virginia state Senate race.

The revelation has sparked outrage among some who say the commander-in-chief was wrong to check on the top lawman's loyalty.

But Pozzuoli, who is president of Tripp Scott, a Fort Lauderdale law firm, isn't buying the outrage.

"Maybe it's inappropriate, maybe Andrew McCabe felt uncomfortable, but when you put the context of this idea of a secret society, of a set of FBI agents meeting offsite, the idea that now all of a sudden there are missing texts, I mean that's right out of the Clinton playbook," he said.

Pozzuoli was referring to allegations that two FBI employees who traded texts during the 2016 race and mentioned a "secret society that would be working against" the president.

"This is very scary stuff for those of us who believe in a constitutional republic and really it goes to the heart of the tenets of why the United States has survived and thrived, but when did we get off in an exclusivity group? That's terrible," Pozzouli said.
