Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of Thursday’s GOP presidential debate will put his closest rival Sen. Ted Cruz in the hot seat, veteran political analyst Dick Morris tells
Newsmax TV.
But that is not necessarily a negative — and could actually give the Texas senator a boost, according to Morris, a Newsmax contributor and former adviser to President Bill Clinton.
"If Trump does not come to the debate and Cruz is there … everyone’s going to be taking shots at Cruz," Morris said Wednesday on "Newsmax Prime" with J.D. Hayworth.
"But in the current format of these debates, getting shot at is a good thing to have happen because every time anyone attacks you, you get the right to talk.
"And by the time the debate's over, you probably hogged 50 percent of the air time — even though you're only one of seven or eight people up there."

Trump pulled out of the debate being aired on the Fox News Channel, after the network mocked him in a press release for threatening not to show up unless moderator Megyn Kelly was replaced.
The billionaire developer and Republican presidential front-runner has been warring with Kelly since she grilled him on sexist comments he allegedly made.
