Dick Morris: 'Tremendous Racial Conflict' on Obama's Watch

By    |   Monday, 22 Dec 2014 03:26 PM

Veteran political analyst Dick Morris tells Newsmax that Americans can't expect the racial healing that was supposed to be one of the hallmarks of President Barack Obama's presidency as long as he is pulling the country apart.

"Part of the subtext of the Obama election was racial healing," Morris told John Bachman on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV on Monday.

"There was a feeling that by electing an African-American president, we would establish that the U.S. had overcome racism and put our unfortunate past behind us, and now this belies that," he explained.

"Obama cannot persist in this policy of atomizing the country into blacks, Latinos, gays, single white women and environmentalists, and then saying he's going to appeal to those special-interest groups as special groups," he said.

"That atomization — that breaking apart of our country — ultimately leads to this kind of consequence," he added.

In addition to the actions of Obama, Morris says the racial divide was also made worse "by the unfortunate fact that there will never be a trial in Ferguson, Missouri."

"Don't get me wrong, I don't think Darren Wilson should've been indicted, but there was no substitute for actually explaining to people, like in the O.J. Simpson trial, exactly what the evidence was and exactly where it led," he explained.

Two New York City Police Department officers were shot in Brooklyn by a man who purportedly was angry over the deaths of black men Michael Brown, who was shot by a police officer in Ferguson, and Eric Garner, who died after he was put in a chokehold by an NYPD officer.

"These kinds of retaliation can be expected, unfortunately," Morris said.

"We're on the verge of a tremendous racial conflict in this country — totally the opposite of what people had in mind when Obama was elected," he added.
