David Clarke to Newsmax TV: Americans 'Sick of This Hypersensitivity'
(Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live")

By    |   Thursday, 30 August 2018 02:31 PM EDT

Former sheriff David Clarke told Newsmax TV on Thursday that Americans on "both sides" are sick of this hypersensitivity by the Democrats after the GOP nominee for governor of Florida's "monkey" remark.

"The whole thing is silly," Clarke told Thursday afternoon's "America Talks Live." "I think most of America, both sides, think this is silly. They're sick of this hypersensitivity by the Democrats and by the left, to raise, no matter what you do, look askance at a black person and it's racist.

"Use the word monkey and right away Democrats say, 'well you're talking about all black people.' If that's the case, then the blatant discrimination and racism in America is perpetrated by Democrats because they're the only ones that bring this up. This is nothing more than a gotcha. It's a shiny object, and it's unfortunate that politics has denigrated into this today."

When asked about the response to the comment from Fox News and prominent Republicans, Clarke said he did not care who apologized or why.

"No, I don't think it was racist at all," he said. "The guy was talking about the state of the economy . . . I don't care who apologized. No one needs to apologize for me if I feel offended – as a black man, as a human being, whatever – I don't need anybody to defend me. So, it's OK if Fox News and other Republicans want to do that, sometimes they do that out of fear. And the left plays on that too, and then they'll play up the fact that Fox News apologized and some GOP apologize; that's nothing more than pandering.

"Everybody knows what that guy was talking about, you can interpret it any way you want, somebody over interprets it as something racist that's that hypersensitivity that I'm talking about. That stuff is stupid."
