President Donald Trump is craftily steering the Democratic Party toward big losses in the midterm elections, retired Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.
“[The Democrats] should just keep doing what they’re doing. They are playing right into the president’s hands. The president is better at this than they are. He’s wiser at it,” Clarke, who last year joined the pro-Trump super PAC America First Action as an adviser, said on Newsmax’s “America Talks Live.”

“The Democrats are just playing checkers, just throwing stuff up against the wall, a lot of slogans, things like ‘no children in cages,’ ‘no separation of families.’ First of all, the president ended that several weeks ago but they’re still chanting that.
“So as long as they continue to play into his hands, he’s going to control the narrative. Politics is about controlling the winning, the narratives and that’s where the Democrats are being played by this president of the United States. He’s doing a great job.”
According to RealClearPolitics, which this week crunched statistics from the major polls taken in the second half of June, Trump averages a 43.5 percent approval rating compared with a 51.3 percent disapproval rating.
Clarke, who was sheriff of Milwaukee County from 2002 to 2017, is the author of “Cop Under Fire: Moving Beyond Hashtags of Race, Crime and Politics for a Better America,” written with Nancy French and published by Worthy.
