Author: Millennials Need to Leave the Nest

Go forward, be brave – and be respectful. That's Charles Murray's advice to today's young adults.

The author of "The Curmudgeon's Guide to Getting Ahead" told John Bachman and J.D. Hayworth on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum" that millennials are often too casual in their interactions with older generations in the workplace and too informal in their conversation.

"We don't tell them it's driving us nuts, but the fact is, I can't stand a conversation very long with somebody who uses 'like' four or five times in a sentence, and I certainly don't want to be a co-worker with that person. I'd go stark raving mad within two weeks," he said. "The book tells them, 'Don't do that.'"

Recent college grads shouldn't waste their time living in their parents' homes waiting for the perfect job to come along. Instead, Murray said, they need to shed their comfortable environs and see what's out there, even if it's hard.

"Don't worry if it's a job that is beneath you or not. Take the job. Go out and rent your own little apartment," he said. "It will not be the style to which you have been accustomed, fine. Then [get accustomed] to a new style, but get out of the house."
