Chad Wolf, acting secretary of Homeland Security under former President Donald Trump, told Newsmax on Monday the media and Democrats continue to try and downplay the border crisis.
"This is what the legacy media has been doing for 3 1/2 and four years," Wolf told "American Agenda." "And that's downplaying the threat, downplaying what millions of Americans are seeing every day on television screens and seen in the news, which is we've got a problem along that border.
"There's public safety threats, and there are national security threats that come across that border and into every community. And instead of acknowledging that, what they try to do is to tell you, well, it's really not that bad or not that many people are dying or not that many people are impacted."
Wolf said every crime committed by someone here illegally is a preventable crime if the right policies were put in place.
"The Biden-Harris team refuses to put the right policies in place to protect American communities," Wolf said.
Mark Morgan, acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection under Trump, said the policies of the Biden-Harris administration have incentivized tens of millions to cross the border illegally.
"We do not have the ability to vet them," Morgan said. "You still have the liberal media saying, Well, wait a minute. It's only a few murderers. It's not that bad. It's only a few gang members. It's not that bad. It's an absurd lie."
