Newsmax TV Panel: White House Failing on Equal Pay for Women

Thursday, 03 July 2014 05:24 PM EDT

President Barack Obama is trying to have it both ways on the issue of some women in the White House not getting equal pay — one of his key agendas, a Newsmax TV panel concludes.

An analysis of salaries by The Washington Post released Friday revealed that the White House has not narrowed the gap between the average pay of male and female employees since Obama’s first year in office.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest admitted a pay gap still exists and is being worked on, telling reporters, "I wouldn’t hold up the White House as the perfect example here.''

Earnest added that there are a "variety of measures to try to get at whether or not workers are receiving equal pay for equal work."

But Forbes social policy analyst Carrie Sheffield, appearing on "The Steve Malzberg Show" wasn't impressed.

"It’s total double speak … There are all kinds of variables that go into a salary and the White House is finally now having to admit this,'' she said.

Rick Ungar, co-host of "Steele & Ungar" on SiriusXM, added:

"You cannot as president go out there and make the argument, as this president has done, that there should be no distance between what a man gets paid and what a woman gets paid for the same job and then in your own operation have that happen.

"It’s wrong. It was a mistake. It was a mistake from the start. They should have made sure that they staffed the White House in a way that all things were equal.''
