President-elect Donald Trump made a smart choice in selecting ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson to serve as his secretary of state, former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie told Newsmax TV Tuesday.
During an appearance on "America Talks Live," Higbie told host Steve Malzberg that Tillerson knows what he's doing and can help lead the United States into the future.
"Keep in mind this guy is the CEO of the largest company some say in the world. So obviously he's not stupid," Higbie said. "The second thing is the biggest thing that drives our economy and drives the United States of America right now is energy.
"You can't have an economy without energy. And you have somebody on the cusp. Fossil fuels are not going to last forever."

Higbie also talked about claims that Russia influenced the U.S. election by hacking into Democratic Party computer systems and spreading fake news stories.
"Hypothetically … let's say the Russians do want Donald Trump to be president or did want him and somehow influenced this," Higbie said. "Is it such a crime for someone to say, 'you know what, I'd rather work with President Donald Trump than President Hillary Clinton.' Can you imagine that?
"It's shocking that nobody else would want to work with Hillary Clinton. Maybe it's because she was a disaster when they had to deal with her in the first place."
