Real Estate Expert: Calif. Drought Will Hit Housing Market 'Hard'

By    |   Tuesday, 07 Apr 2015 02:08 PM

Real estate expert Pej Barlavi says that the current drought going on in California will have an impact on the real estate market in the Golden State.

"You're going to see a deficit of development and housing projects coming up, especially hitting the summer months when it gets to be very busy," Barlavi, CEO of Barlavi Realty, told John Bachman and Miranda Khan on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV Tuesday.

"You're going to see everybody hit, from the home sellers to the home buyers. You're going to see that in the coming months, especially in the summer time," he said.

"It's going to get hit pretty hard," Barlavi said.

California Gov. Jerry Brown announced a week ago that he will take unprecedented measures, including rationing, to help offset the state's dwindling water supply.

Conservative radio host and author Larry Elder, who joined Barlavi on Newsmax TV, lives in the Los Angeles area and said that he's skeptical about what the real cause is behind the water shortage.

"My problem with this whole drought business is that droughts of course are God made, but shortages are man-made," Elder said.

"I'm old enough to remember the '70s when we had gasoline lines and Ronald Reagan came in, he removed the price controls, the lines went away," he said.

"Water is a commodity just like gasoline, and we ought to have the prices dictated and the people who use it dictate what the prices are.

"We don't do that now. We allocate it, it's a collectivist system, and that's what caused the shortage," Elder said.
