Friday, 27 June 2014 06:34 PM EDT

It only took 98 tries for Brendan Gaughan to win a NASCAR race. The journeyman driver, who took his first checkered flag in a Nationwide NASCAR Series race on June 21, joined Newsmax TV's Ed Berliner on "MidPoint" Friday to talk about his 10-year track odyssey.

Gaughan, who also played college basketball at Georgetown University under legendary coach John Thompson, said there were moments in his racing career when he thought about quitting, "but it's not in my nature."
