Ben Stein: I Agree With Hillary Clinton on Vaccinations

Tuesday, 03 Feb 2015 04:26 PM

Ben Stein, the actor, author and economist who was a speechwriter for Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, tells Newsmax TV that Hillary Clinton is absolutely correct when she says vaccinations work.

Stein, also the "Dreemz" columnist for Newsmax Magazine, said he does not buy the arguments of those who say childhood immunizations can lead to mental disorders, such as autism.

"[Clinton] happens to be right. I mean the science is 100 percent clear cut that the vaccinations have nothing to do with autism," Stein said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"My heart breaks for people with autism, I have several very dear friends who have autistic children and we have a special needs child ourselves, but we're not blaming it on vaccinations."

Childhood vaccinations have become a political hot potato in recent weeks following an increase in cases of measles across the country.

On Twitter late Monday, Clinton — the former secretary of state and presumed Democratic choice for the 2016 presidential election — weighed in on childhood vaccinations, saying:

"The science is clear. The earth is round, the sky is blue, and #vaccineswork. Let's protect all our kids. #GrandmothersKnowBest."

Presidential hopeful Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky took to CNBC on Monday to say parents "should have some input" whether or not to vaccinate their children, adding it is "an issue of freedom."

But Stein is adamant.

"It's just an unbelievable, unimaginable hoax to be putting this over on voters," he said.

Stein — whose movies include "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Frankenstein General Hospital" — also criticized President Barack Obama for living in "a fantasy world," based on the principles of radical Muslim minister Louis Farrakhan.

"I don't want to be too harsh on him. He's a delicate little flower. His whole world seems to be based on the principles of Minister Farrakhan, which is if it screws up America, I'll do it," Stein said.

"That's not entirely true but it's largely true … He said that we're doing the best we've ever done on education. I did a little research last night and found out that something like under 40 percent of American high school seniors are proficient in math or English.

"For African-Americans in high school, the number is absolutely heartbreakingly sad. This is the kind of thing that he just glosses over and pretends doesn't exist."

The same with the economy the president says has been improving steadily, according to Stein.

"The recession has gone away for some people, but it's coming back rapidly — manufacturing growth dropped very rapidly, there's now a rippling spread of unemployment in the oil patch, the business confidence is falling once again," he said.

"It grows very rapidly, now it's falling again. I'm not quite sure where he sees this gigantic boom."
