Broadcaster Max: Soaring MLB Salaries Force Fans Out

By    |   Monday, 09 December 2013 07:28 PM EST

Major League Baseball is pricing fans out of the market by paying players skyrocketing salaries that increase ticket costs, sports broadcaster Jared Max says.

"I'm just trying to figure out how many empty seats there are going to be around Major League Baseball this season, with all of these hundred million-dollar contracts going out there," Max, a former broadcaster for ESPN Radio in New York, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"When you just look at the numbers that are going out, what it costs to pay these players and the number of empty seats, well, there is a correlation."

Story continues below video.

Max's concern comes on the heels of the deal the Seattle Mariners made with second baseman Robinson Cano. The Mariners agreed to pay him $240 million over the next 10 seasons, outbidding the New York Yankees, Cano's team for nine seasons.

"I don't know where we go from this . . . it's certainly going to be an interesting time," Max said.
