Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says Barbara Bush was a brilliant first lady who managed to stay out of the glare of the political spotlight but always got her point of view across.
"She kept her eyes open and her ears open and she was very much involved . . . She was a role model and did a lot to enhance the office of the first lady," DeLay, a Texas Republican told hosts Miranda Khan and John Cardillo on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live."

Mrs. Bush, the wife of President H.W. Bush and mother of President George W. Bush, died Tuesday night at the age of 92 at the Bush family home in Houston.
"She was very, very comfortable sitting on the outside of the room and watching what was going on like a fly on the wall," DeLay said. "But at the right time, if she saw something going on that was wrong, she very strongly stood up and spoke about it.
"And I think that's why she changed the first lady's office very significantly. Because she stayed out of politics and did not become the story."
DeLay is the author of "Revival! Revolution! Rebirth!: A Radical Call from the Former Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives," written with Wallace Henley and published by WND Books.
