Ann Coulter: 'Appearance of a Conflict' Exists With McCabe, McAuliffe

Ann Coulter: 'Appearance of a Conflict' Exists With McCabe, McAuliffe
(Newsmax TV's' "The Howie Carr Show")

By    |   Monday, 19 March 2018 06:16 PM EDT

The allegations of corruption constitute a much bigger problem for former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe than their leaks to the media, conservative commentator Ann Coulter told Newsmax TV on Monday.

During an appearance on "The Howie Carr Show," Coulter addressed McCabe's firing from the bureau just days before his planned retirement.

Coulter acknowledged McCabe and Comey have leaked information to the media.

"Obviously Comey is leaking like a siv. He released that memo through his friend the Columbia law professor," she said. "That doesn't interest me as much as the fact that McCabe's wife got, what was it? $700,000 from [former Virginia Gov.] Terry McAuliffe, a close friend of Hillary Clinton? $700,000 is a lot of money.

"That looks like bribery. It certainly is the appearance of a conflict."

McCabe, Comey, and other FBI officials had at least some knowledge of top-secret FISA warrants that were signed to spy on members of the Trump campaign in 2016, including former adviser Carter Page.

Coulter said the fact McCabe's wife got such a large check from a Clinton ally for her Virginia State Senate campaign raises a red flag.

"And McCabe, as well as [Deputy Attorney General Rod] Rosenstein, signed warrants based on that ridiculous Russian dossier," she said.

"They signed warrants for FISA, for secret spying on an American citizen — this hapless schlub Carter Page. Those things are actually really bad deep state backscratching, apparent bribery, that I'm more concerned with than technical violations and leaking to the press."

Coulter also touched on the case of Michael Flynn, who served as President Donald Trump's national security adviser for 24 days last year. Flynn was caught up in surveillance and was accused of lying to the FBI regarding a phone conversation he had with then-Russia Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak during Trump's transition.

"He said nothing that was inappropriate," Coulter said. "Why was that phone call being listened to by the FBI? And then why was Flynn asked about it? What they ended up charging Michael Flynn with was lying to an FBI agent about that conversation. There was nothing criminal about the conversation."
