Rep. Biggs to Newsmax: Hunter Biden's 'Stunt' Showed More Contempt

By    |   Thursday, 11 January 2024 03:27 PM EST

Rep. Andy Biggs, a member of the Oversight and Judiciary committees, said Thursday on Newsmax that there's "no excuse" for Hunter Biden making an unexpected appearance on Wednesday at a U.S. House of Representatives hearing.

Republican lawmakers were pushing for a vote to hold him in contempt of Congress for not testifying in their impeachment inquiry targeting Biden's father, President Joe Biden,

"My first thought was, 'OK, so you exhibited contempt when you went and had your press conferences when you were supposed to be in your deposition, and then you come in here today with the publicity stunt, so you're doubling down on your contempt of Congress?'" the Arizona Republican told Newsmax's "Newsline." "I view it as almost legal malpractice to commit the crime in front of millions of people, and that's what his attorney asked him to do."

Biden showed up Wednesday with his attorney Abbe Lowell and producer Kevin Morris, with members of Congress blasting him with questions about his appearance.

Biggs said he gives Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., kudos for "going right at him."

"The next thing you know, he's out of there because he knows Marjorie Taylor Greene is next up, and he blows out of there," Biggs. "He didn't want to face it. It was a publicity stunt."

Meanwhile, there has been some talk among House conservatives about pushing to out recently elected House Speaker Mike Johnson over his work with the White House and Democrats to pass a $1.59 trillion spending bill last weekend, and Biggs said he is also disappointed.
