Alan Dershowitz: Hamas '100 Percent' at Fault for Violence

By    |   Monday, 21 July 2014 12:20 PM EDT

The violence between the Palestinians and Israel is entirely the fault of Hamas, which intentionally places its people in harm’s way in an effort to advance its propaganda on the world stage, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz tells Newsmax TV.

"This is all 100 percent the fault of Hamas, which is trying desperately to avoid a two-state solution and trying desperately to keep Israel and itself in a state of continuous warfare, and Israel has to put an end to it once and for all," Dershowitz said during an appearance on "America’s Forum." "The United States would never tolerate repeated efforts to infiltrate its country through tunnels and to bomb its cities through rockets, and all Americans should support Israel's effort to defend itself as they would support their own efforts to defend themselves from terrorism."

Building terror tunnels in hospitals and firing rockets from hospitals is "Hamas’ style," he said.

While Israel tries desperately to avoid civilian casualties, Hamas is trying to create them, Dershowitz said.

"They purposely want to see as many dead Palestinian children as they can," he said,  explaining the Hamas strategy is to be on the ready with cameras to photograph and publish injured women and children so that the media will implicate Israel.

Dershowitz said he’s encouraged that most of the Middle East has turned its back on Hamas, with the exception of Qatar and Turkey, the latter’s leader having become "a full-fledged anti-Semite."

"He's turned Turkey into an extremist Islamic country in an effort to get re-elected because he's so unpopular at home," Dershowitz said of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has characterized Israel’s military actions as tantamount to Hitler’s Germany.

Dershowitz took issue with Secretary of State John Kerry’s suggestion that Israel "pinpoint the operation."

"There's no such thing as absolute pinpoint accuracy," he said. "You do the best you can. You have guided missiles, you try to avoid civilian casualties. But when Hamas uses human shields constantly and deliberately tells its people not to leave because it wants them to die, it wants them to be martyrs," Israel’s hands are tied.

"Hamas terrorists hide like cowards below the ground and expose only its civilians to Israeli retaliatory rocket fire," Dershowitz said.
