Alabama Democratic Senator-elect Doug Jones will have to "modify his agenda" if he expects to retain the seat in two years, according to Trump transition team adviser Ken Blackwell.
In a Wednesday interview with "Newsmax Now" on Newsmax TV, Blackwell, a former mayor of Cincinnati and former Ohio secretary of state, asserted Alabama is socially conservative, pro-economic expansion, and pro-job creation.
"It is not a state that loves big government," he said. "And so if he wants to be a big government Democrat, if he wants to be a redistributionist as opposed to a person that advocates growth policies, he's going to have an interesting three years — but it in fact will be over in three years."
"I think he will have to modify his agenda, believe me, if he wants to, in fact, return for a longer tenure," Blackwell added.

Jones "will have a very difficult time" being pro-choice and "playing out the scheme of the left" in conservative Alabama, Blackwell said.
"So he's going to have to find ways of accommodating the wishes, the values of the people of Alabama with the agenda of [Rep. Nancy] Pelosi [D-Calif.] and [Sen. Chuck] Schumer [D-N.Y.]. And that's going to take some real political dexterity, and we'll see if he can manage that for three years or more."
