One of President Donald Trump's former lawyers praised special counsel Robert Mueller in a new interview and said the Russia investigation is legitimate.
Ty Cobb, who retired as a member of the White House counsel's office in May, told CNN this week that Mueller, a former FBI director who is spearheading the Russia probe, is an "American hero" because of his military service.
"Bob Mueller is an American hero in my view," said Cobb, alluding to Mueller's time in the Marine Corps, during which he served in the Vietnam War.
"He was a very serious prosecutor. He and I first met in the mid '80s when we were prosecuting different places, and I have respected him throughout."
When asked if he thought Mueller's probe is a witch hunt, a term often used by Trump himself, Cobb had a quick reply.
"I don't think it's a witch hunt," he said.
Mueller's investigation started in May 2017 over accusations the Trump campaign might have colluded with Russia to beat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. No concrete evidence proving that has been made public.
