Donald Trump Wednesday was stopped from attacking Hillary Clinton in "a political speech" by the pastor of an African-American church in Michigan and was apparently heckled twice while speaking about the Flint water crisis.

"Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us for coming to Flint, not to give a political speech," the Rev. Faith Elizabeth Timmons of Bethel United Methodist Church told the Republican nominee, NBC News reports.

"Oh, okay," Trump responded. "That's good. I'm going to go back onto Flint. Okay. Okay."

Trump then discussed the impact of the Flint water crisis — and after two members of audience interrupted him, Timmons stepped from behind a drape and said: "He is a guest in my church, and you will respect him."

"Thank you," Trump said. "Thank you, pastor."

He then continued: "I can only say in the strongest of terms that we can fix this problem.

"It's going to take time. It's amazing the damage that's been done.

"But we'll get it fixed," Trump pledged. "And it will be fixed quickly, if I am elected."

As Trump left the stage, another audience member tried to ask a question, but the nominee walked off with Timmons.

Trump stopped at Bethel United Methodist with Armstrong Williams, the radio talk-show host, as part of a tour of Flint.

The city, a majority of whose 100,000 residents are poor and black, used the Flint River for tap water for more than 18 months to save money.

Residents used improperly treated water that coursed through aging pipes and fixtures, releasing dangerous levels of toxic lead.

So far, nine city and state employees have been charged in the water crisis.

Trump also toured the city's water treatment plant with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver.
