The State Department advised U.S. citizens Tuesday to be aware of terrorism risks at three major events in Europe this summer.
The European Soccer Championships and the Tour de France, two sporting events that last several weeks in France, are being labeled by authorities as potential terror sites in the wake of
recent terror-related events in Europe.
The Catholic Church's World Youth Day, slated for July 26 to 31 in Krakow, Poland, is another event that carries risk for attendees.
"As part of the State Department's continuous efforts to provide Americans traveling abroad with information about relevant events, we are alerting U.S. citizens to the risk of potential terrorist attacks throughout Europe, targeting major events, tourist sites, restaurants, commercial centers and transportation,"
the travel bulletin reads.
"The large number of tourists visiting Europe in the summer months will present greater targets for terrorists planning attacks in public locations, especially at large events. This Travel Alert expires August 31, 2016."
The European Soccer Championship, also known as the Euro Cup, will take place June 10 to July 10 in 10 venues across France.
The Tour de France, one of cycling's three grand tours, will be contested July 2 to 24.
