Hayden: European Security Services Need to Do Better Job Combatting Terrorism

("The Cats Roundtable"/AM 970 The Answer)

Former CIA Director Gen, Michael Hayden insists European security services must do a better job at fighting terrorism to counter the threat the continent faces.

Speaking on the Sunday "Cats Roundtable" radio show on AM 970 in New York hosted by John Catsimatidis, Hayden said that although some of the security services in Europe operate at a high level, most of the countries have an uneven record and are particularly poor at the vital task of sharing information.

To stress this point, Hayden said, "If you want to get information from one European country to another, the best way of doing it is tell the Americans."

The former CIA director, who served three years under President George W. Bush, insisted that the United States is much more secure than the European continent.

Although he conceded that part of the reason is that the Europeans are much closer geographically to the source of most terrorism, America's major advantage is that the U.S.security services have a much better record.

He also stressed that the United States "actually knows how to assimilate immigrants, even immigrants from different cultures. We may have radicalized individuals in the United States, but we do not have radicalized communities.”
