Filmmaker Spike Lee says President Donald Trump's leadership has brought hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan out into the open.
"This guy in the White House has given the green light for the Klan, for the alt-right, for the neo-Nazis to come out in the open," Lee told The Guardian. "There is no need for the so-called dog-whistle anymore, they are in full daylight."
His new movie "BlacKkKlansman" is based on an autobiographical book about an African American detective out to expose the KKK and opens Aug. 10th – the first anniversary of the deadly Charlottesville, Virginia, rally of white nationalists.
Asked about the future of the U.S., Lee said: "I can't help thinking it's going to be ugly. What is really amazing is these House Republicans. How do they sleep at night? They are up there co-signing this hatred . . ."
He added: "I have faith in [special counsel Robert] Mueller. May God hold him and protect him, that's all I can say! Let Mueller do his job!"
