The son of billionaire and liberal donor George Soros donated $1 million to the political arm of Planned Parenthood in February, according to data.
The Washington Free Beacon reports Jonathan Allan Soros, the CEO of JS Capital Management LLC, gave the money to Planned Parenthood Votes. The group, which lobbies for the Planned Parenthood organization, collected $2.7 million in donations in February.
The second highest individual donation that month was $500,000 from Pritzker Group managing partner Jay Pritzker. George Soros' daughter and Trace Foundation president Andrea Soros Colombel gave the group $250,000 in January, according to data cited by the Free Beacon.
George Soros, 85, is the 23rd richest person in the world,
according to Forbes, with a net worth of $24.9 billion. He has given away millions of his money over the years, and he has spent or promised to spend
$13 million to support Democrats in the 2016 presidential race.
Planned Parenthood has come under fire for allegedly
selling organs taken from aborted fetuses. Planned Parenthood performs other services besides abortions, and the organization — which receives federal funding — is
trying to rebrand itself in the public eye to upgrade its "patient experience."
"We've always had high quality care," Becca Karpinski, vice president of strategy and organizational effectiveness for Planned Parenthood of the Southwest, said last week. "But frankly, the rest of the experience wasn't necessarily what we would want ourselves to go through."
