The Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russian meddling into the American presidential election has not even started substantially probing possible ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow, and has no staffer is dedicated to the task full time, The Daily Beast reported on Sunday.

Although the committee’s investigation is three months old, no interviews have been conducted with the key people involved and the seven staff members who are working on the probe have no background in how to conduct investigations, even though they are the ones who have to review documents relating to the probe, three individuals with ties to the committee told The Daily Beast.

In addition, most of the staffers are also without a background in Russian affairs.

However, two new staffers will reportedly be added in the near future, one with extensive legal skills.

A spokesperson for the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee declined to comment on the report.

Earlier this month, NBC News reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee rejected a request by former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for immunity lawyer for in exchange for his testimony.

One congressional source said it the idea of immunity was "wildly preliminary" and that it was "not on the table" at the moment.

Another source in Congress said the committee told Flynn's lawyer that it is "not receptive" to the request "at this time."
