An unclassified, but heavily redacted document released by a Senate committee shows that British spy Christopher Steele authored a second dossier on President Donald Trump and alleged Russia entanglements, the Washington Examiner reported.
However, the exact nature of the second dossier was redacted in the Senate Judiciary document — the criminal referral to the Justice Department asking that it investigate Steele for lying to the committee.
Judiciary chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley and committee member Sen. Lindsey Graham authored the referral to the DOJ on Jan. 4.
The Grassley-Graham referral implies some level of cooperation between Steele, an unnamed surrogate of the Clintons, and the Obama administration, the Examiner reports.
The Clinton link could be Cody Shearer, who reportedly authored a second and independent Trump dossier that was in the possession of the FBI and receiving vetting from the agency.
However, the Grassley-Graham heavily redacted referral makes it unclear whether Shearer actually authored his own second dossier or just fed information to Steele, resulting in the spy's second Trump report, the Examiner reports.
The memo released by House Intelligence Republicans last week accuses the Justice Department of using the Steele dossier, or dossiers, in its approval of a warrant granting the FBI permission to surveil former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
