Wisconsin state school superintendent Tony Evers is ahead of Gov. Scott Walker, R-Wis., in an Emerson College poll released Monday.
In the poll:
- 48 percent approved of Evers.
- 41 percent approve of Walker.
Among Independent voters, Evers' lead is higher — 47 percent compared to Walker's 34 percent.
Two-term Gov. Walker's lack of popularity in the state could be key to Evers' lead, the Washington Examiner reported.
Walker has a 40 percent approval rate and 46 percent disapproval rate in the poll.
Evers is the front-runner in the Democratic primary with 30 percent support, with his closest competitor, state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, at 10 percent, the Examiner reported.
The Emerson College poll was conducted from July 26 to July 28 among 632 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
