Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., downplayed a plan by Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke to seize certain weapons, the Times Union is reporting.
During the recent Democratic debate, O’Rourke said: “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”
But Schumer told reporters on Wednesday: "I don't know of any other Democrat who agrees with Beto O'Rourke, but it's no excuse not to go forward."
Over the weekend, Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., rejected O’Rourke’s call for gun seizures.
"I don't think having our presidential candidates, like Congressman O'Rourke did, say that we're going to try and take people's guns against their will is a wise either policy or political move," Coons, a gun owner and skeet shooter himself, said. "I respect his passion.”
And Sen. Joe Manchin, D- W. Va., said Wednesday that O’Rourke is “not taking my guns away from me.”
