White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday "strongly" condemned "the evil act of senseless violence" at The Capital Gazette in Maryland, in which five people were killed and two others were injured.
Anne Arundel County Acting Police Chief William Krampf said five people were killed and two others were injured after a gunman opened fire at the Annapolis newspaper shortly after 3 p.m. ET.
Krampf said a suspect was in custody and was being interviewed.
President Donald Trump also tweeted "my thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
"Thank you to all of the first responders who are currently on the scene," the president said.
